What will you learn

We will take you on a hands on journey covering the complete digital path. Including receipt, ingest, building shows, scheduling, managing shows, and deleting. The course will also look at your Cinema’s specific show needs (for Engineers typical client shows) and provide you with smart effective methods of using the complete TMS system, in order to effectively manage up to 32 screens from the TMS. The course is fully structured and will run at a pace that suits you.

Who should attend

The course is aimed at end users or engineers, either new to Digital Cinema or with some existing experience in the field. You may already be using the TMS and wish to enhance your existing knowledge. Groups are kept as small as possible, allowing hands-on access to the TMS. The course is also suitable for any customer needing to fully understand the practical TMS workflow when displaying content with a Sony 4K digital cinema projector.

Digital cinema fundamentals

The course starts with the fundamentals of digital cinema, including:-

  • Comparison HD,2K and 4K resolutions
  • 2D and 3D lens explanation
  • The digital workflow
  • Key digital terms
  • Understanding KDM’s
  • Projector and content security
  • Understanding aspect ratios
  • Understanding DCP file naming
  • Original version and version files
  • A basic show structure
  • DCP and CPL understanding
TMS overview

Overview of CHIPS rack & TMS software, including:-

  • CHIPS rack overview
  • TMS full version versus lite
  • TMS workstation
  • Log in and out
  • Overview of TMS main tabs
Receiving and ingesting content

Covering the process for receiving then ingesting content and KDM’s onto the TMS, including:-

  • Receiving content and KDM’s
  • USB, DVD and various types of drives
  • Drive letter auto assign
  • Ingesting movies using various drives including CRU Ports
  • Ingesting via USB and DVD ROM
  • Checking copy status to library
  • Ingesting KDM’s via KDM Upload or KDM copy
  • Transferring content manually
  • Checking transfer status to projectors
  • Verifying content has transferred
  • Checking available space Library and projectors
  • Validation of encrypted SMPTE DCP’s
Building shows

Showing you the various ways of building shows and the most efficient, including:-

  • The rating system
  • Edit mode
  • Templates creation
  • Creating a pack and populating with content
  • Editing a pack
  • Selecting a show template to create your SPL
  • Adding packs into your SPL
  • Adding content into your SPL
  • Error checking 3D content in a 2D show

Schedule shows

This part of the course looks at the scheduling of SPL’s and required monitoring, including:-

  • Edit mode
  • Scheduling a single screen for 1 day
  • Scheduling remaining 6 days
  • When best to schedule
  • Performance detail box
  • Checking status of scheduled shows
  • Swapping screens
  • Ongoing checks of gaps between shows
  • Point of sale (POS) overview
  • GMT to BST management
Manage and run

Looking at various monitoring and operational functions, including:-

  • Emergency control window
  • Checking KDM valid dates
  • Locating content within projectors only
  • Monitoring auditoriums within status
  • Performance status colours, warnings and errors
  • Running an SPL or CPL from the TMS
  • Manual transfer of SPL to or from the TMS
Return and delete

This part of the course looks at content return and the various elements that need to be deleted and how, including:-

  • Returning content
  • When to delete from projector and or library
  • Delete content on projectors
  • Delete content on the library
  • DCP’s with multiple CPL’s
  • Deleting content via CPL/KDM window
  • Deleting SPL’s and packs on the TMS
  • Deleting SPL’s on the projectors
  • Auto delete of specific content and prevention

This part of the course looks at some of the potential operational issues and errors and how to resolve them, including:-

  • Failed transfers
  • A scheduled show has failed to start
  • SPL is red or amber within the schedule
  • Locked out of TMS in edit mode

The final part of the course overviews the configuration area of the TMS. (No settings should be adjusted without prior approval) including:-

  • General overview
  • Specific elements that can enhance the use of the TMS
