This course will show you how to set up and operate a Sony PDW-HD1500 or PDW-F1600 XDCAM-HD deck. You will also learn about optical disk based video and the XDCAM-HD format using the MPEG-HD422 codec.

Who should attend

This course is intended for editors, operators and technicians who want to operate a PDW-1500 or PDW-F1600 deck. Previous experience in operating general broadcast products and broadcast technology is expected. Previous experience in operating professional tape based video recorders is useful.

The course starts by explaining the reasons behind the development of high definition optical disk based broadcast quality equipment.

XDCAM-HD deck technology

The course includes an explanation of the technology behind the deck. This short session provides essential background information that allows operators to gain the most from a PDW-HD1500 or PDW-F1600.

Essential XDCAM-HD deck operation

This part of the course explains the essential procedures for setting up and using a PDW-HD1500 or PDW-F1600.

The PDW-HD1500/ PDW-F1600 menus

Part of the course explains the extensive operator menus found in the deck.

Workflow considerations

The final part of the course examines how the decks fit into the XDCAM-HD production process. It shows how differences in the way recordings are made with XDCAM benefit, not only the cameraman, but also the editing and postproduction process as well.
